relevance feedback -- A feature of a Wide Area Information Server (WAIS) that ranks answers judged to be most relevant to a submitted query by putting them highest on a list and scoring them on a scale of 1,000.
remote staff -- Users who serve as hosts, guides, forum leaders, consultants, etc., from their homes or outside the structured organization.
revolving door -- A chat room where users are quickly moving in and out of the room.
RFC -- Acronym for Request For Comments, the agreed-upon designation by which all methods of communicating over the Internet, such as the various versions of HTML, are developed and defined.
robot -- A program that searches huge numbers of files automatically when given search criteria. Also called a "worm." See search engine.
router -- A special-purpose computer or software package that handles the connection between two or more networks.
RSS -- Acronym for Rich Site Summary, an XML format for Web content syndication (usually used by portal sites).
