UDP -- Acronym for User Datagram Protocol, a "stateless" protocol that makes no provision for acknowledgement of packets received in data transfer; part of the TCP / IP suite of protocols. See TCP / IP.

URL -- Acronym for Uniform Resource Locator, a Web "address." Every page on the Web can be referenced by a unique address, containing the Internet host address of the Web server, and, sometimes, the path through the directory structure on the Web server's hard drive to a particular file and the name of that file. Take for example the URL http://www.bton.com/tb17/webdefs.html. The http:// tells the browser to request a file via HyperText Transfer Protocol, the www.bton.com is the host address of the Web server, /tb17/ is the directory on the Web server, and webdefs.html is the name of the file containing the Web page.
USENET -- Abbreviation for Users' Network, a tremendously popular means of sharing information over the Internet and is more extensive than the Web. See USENET newsgroups.
USENET newsgroups -- A global computer network run by the community of Internet users that can be accessed either from within or outside the Internet.
